Top Ten Tuesday: Books Written Before I Was Born
Hello, everyone, happy February! Today is the first TTT of the month.
Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl and where there is a topic and you make a list that best fits it. Today’s topic is Books Written Before I was Born (suggested by Davida Chazan @ The Chocolate Lady’s Book Review Blog).
I’ll admit, finding books that were written before I was born proved to be more challenging than I thought. I also added in the factor of finding books that I’ve read. Nevertheless, I ended up finding a good amount of books written before I was born.
Little Women by Lousia May Alcott
Princess Academy by Shannon Hale
The Valley of Secrets by Charmian Hussey
To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
In the Year of the Boar and Jackie Robinson by Bette Bao Lord
The Blue Sword by Robin McKinley
Sabriel by Garth Nix
Alanna: The First Adventure by Tamora Pierce
Surviving the Applewhites by Stephanie S. Tolan
Child of the Owl by Laurence Yep
Have you read any of the books I mentioned? What are some books written before you were born? Chat with me in the comments below!

I really enjoyed To Kill a Mockingbird! One of the first classics I ever read and really enjoyed, I think. Did you ever read the companion book, Go Set A Watchman?
Here’s my TTT post.
Lotus @ Pages of Starlight
I enjoyed it as well! I haven’t read Go Set a Watchman. I was told it wasn’t as good as TKAM. Did you?

I think Robin McKinley looks interesting and I’ve seen her books on a few posts, so they must be great!
Lotus @ Pages of Starlight
I really enjoyed the two books I read that were by her!

Little women is a classic read! To kill a mockingbird has been on my reading list for way too long now 🙁
Lotus @ Pages of Starlight
I agree! I hope you enjoy To Kill a Mockingbird when you read it.

I haven’t read Sabriel yet but I really want to at some point!

I know without looking what year Princess Academy was published, because I was in college at the time and you are the first person to give me an actual “I’M LIKE THE CRYPTKEEPER” heart attack on TTT this week as a result. However, that book is wonderful (I keep forgetting it has sequels — have you read those too?), so I’m happy to see it on your list. Equally cool to see those books of Tolan, Yep and Bao Lord’s, which definitely qualify as children’s literature greats, though I haven’t gotten to them yet. And The Valley of Secrets is one I assume is less well known, so that’s even cooler to see; I added it to my TBR last year.

Yeah, I liked it too! I haven’t read the sequels. Maybe I will sometime. (Though I’d have to reread Princess Academy because I forget most of what happens.) Yes, I agree, Tolan, Yep, and Bao Lord’s books are great books of children’s literature. Cool, I hope you enjoy The Valley of Secrets!
