Wrap-Ups

March 2023 Wrap-Up | in which i disappear for most the month

Hey, everyone! I hope you’re all doing well. I am so sorry that I disappeared for over two weeks; I had not been planning to do that. It’s been a busy month and blogging has been set aside for a while. And I know I say this every month, but I’m hoping April will be better. But seeing as I’m going to be gone all of spring break, that might not work out so well.

BOOKS READ

Asian American Histories of the United States by Catherine Cenzia Choy|πŸ“–|β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…
I read this for English class for a project I’m doing. I learned so much from this, and it made me realize how much isn’t covered in history class. World History really only covers Europe and Africa; there’s so many other places whose history is vital to how the world is today.

Morning Sun in Wuhan by Ying Chang Compestine|πŸ“–|β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…
This was a fun read! I enjoyed seeing the pandemic through a young person’s mind and she dealt with COVID in the place where it originated. I loved the recipes interspersed throughout the book; I even made one of them, and it turned out pretty good.

Spin the Dawn by Elizabeth Lim|πŸ“–|β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…
I loved the Mulan inspiration behind this story. I would love to see the outfits that Maia makes; they sound gorgeous. I liked the first part the best, The Trial. I loved the competition and all the characters that Maia met. The second and third parts were still good, but they got a little too focused on the romance. Still love Edan, though.

The Color of the Sky is the Shape of the Heart by Chesil|πŸ“–|β˜…β˜…β˜….5
I was really excited to read this books, as I haven’t read many translated books. I enjoyed the storyline and how Ginny grows to fight for what she believes in. However, I didn’t like the formatting, and we don’t know how exactly she ended up in America or what happened to her parents. A lot of things weren’t explained well.

CURRENTLY READING

Today Tonight Tomorrow by Rachel Lynn Solomon

I’ve been wanting to read Solomon’s books for a while, and this is the one that I started with. I’m reading this for the 12 Reading Challenge, and I’m really enjoying it. I like the concept of Howl and how it’s something for the seniors to do as their send off. I love Rowan and Neil’s banter with each other; I’m excited to see how their relationship ends up.

Tokyo Ever After by Emiko Jean

I’m not very far into this since I’m focusing most of my reading attention on Today Tonight Tomorrow, but I enjoyed what I’ve read so far. I didn’t really think it through when I decided to read two contemporary books at once. Near the beginning, I might’ve mixed up a few details with the books, but now that I’m in different places with them, it’s better. I’m looking forward to reading the rest of it.

MY POSTS

I only posted twice this month which is the least amount posts that I’ve put out in a while.

AROUND THE BLOGOSPHERE

BLOGS I DISCOVERED

Not Just Fiction – This blog is run by Charvi, who has been blogging for a long time. I love the design of her blog, as well as the color scheme. She’s been on a break for a little while, so I look forward to reading more posts by her.

Nothing has really changed, so I think we’re going to skip this section for the month.

🎬 TV Shows and Movies: My mom and I watched Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, which wasn’t as good as the original Knives Out but was still a fun and suspenseful movie. Recently, we watched Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris, which was such a sweet movie. I loved Mrs. Harris’ determination and the other characters she meets. We watched more Star Trek, which has been fun. We also started season 3 of Ted Lasso, which we’ve been excitedly and nervously anticipating. It seems like it’s going to be a sad season, but I hope it’ll end happy. Also, after my mom discovering that I’ve never seen Legally Blonde, we watched that. It was very funny.

🎻 I had two orchestra middle school clinics. They were held during school this year, so I had to miss some classes. They were pretty fun. One of the schools had really easy music, that we just sight read when we got there, but the other school had music that was pretty difficult for their level. We only had a day to look at it, since the MS director didn’t get it to us earlier, and it was some pretty advanced stuff. All in all, they went fairly well.

πŸ‘— I went to junior prom! It was held at a really nice venue on the water, and it didn’t rain, which was good. I had a shiny blue, A-line princess dress that had a bit of a cross over bodice and flowed down to the floor. We had to get it hemmed. I wore Vans, which is so much better than fancy shoes because who wants to be in heels or flats for 4 hours? It was a bit of a rocky start, but by the end, I was having a good time! They had food, karaoke, a dance floor, and a small pier you could walk out on.

March Goals:

  • Read 5 books ❌ (it’ll probably happen by the actual end of the month, but for now, it didn’t)
  • Post 8 times ❌
  • Work on WIP ❌

April Goals:

  • Read 5 books
  • Post 7 times
  • Work on WIP
  • Study for the SAT (which I’m taking in June)

How was your March? Did you read any good books?
Do you have any fun plans for April?

PS: I’m going to be gone starting this Thursday and then all through the first week of April, so I won’t be posting. Wanted to let you know that I’m planning not to post, instead of just disappearing.
